Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Review
Submitted by: Carnivora

As you all know the MGS saga has gone through a slight turn over with #4, and this is my review of the newest installment of our beloved series, Metal Gear Solid.
General Information
As for the game title, we all know this is no #5. The reason he took PW to a portable system, or simply the fact that he decided to even make another Metal Gear game, just questions my mind even more. Will there ever be an end to Metal Gear?
The game itself is more old school MGS compared to MGS4, which took more of an action punch compared to the sneaking in earlier games. But never the less, this is not Portable Ops or some spin-off card game.
So to begin with...
Graphics
I was literally blown away with the game, I have played many games on the PSP, but this one is just outstanding. It really has the feeling that you where taken outside of your room and into the jungle, enemy base, etc. Since the people at Kojima Productions managed to pull this off, I'm really hoping to see more PSP games from them.
Sound
The sound was great, like always with MGS games. You will hear small birds, rivers flowing, and many other sounds once you start the operation of PW. Even the weapons have unique sounds.
Gameplay
For all the old MGS fans, stealth is finally back in the game. To be honest, PW returns the "stay hidden for your own sake" elemenet to the MGS series. There is no "Drebin" to give you an infinite supply of ammo simply by pressing the start menu. While there is something to give you ammo, it does not stop the gameplay around you and you must continue to fight until the ammo drops from a cardboard box. The concept of MGS: Peace Walker was to be played via Co-Op, however it is possible to play and beat the game solo like the previous MGS titles. But trust me, Co-Op is alot more fun. The only thing that I have against the gameplay is the OTS view. I wish they'd return to the old FPV while aiming and firing a gun.
The famous cardbox box is back, and as a usable item. Not only can you use it to hide, but you can climb on it, fire your pistol from it, etc. Empty magazines, smoke grenades, knocking on walls, and just pretty much everything is back to the way a MGS game should be. However, for whatever reason you can't move while lying down or when you are pressed up against a wall. Don't know the reason behind that but its just gonna odd if you know what I mean.
Boss battles
You will be doing a **** of a lot of boss battles in Peace Walker, which wasn't really the case in previous games. But guess what? No human battles. I won't say much more, as I don't want to spoil the story for you but lets just say the boss battles makes co op with a friend more interesting and thats why I think co op is a huge score in this game.
Story
This is a part I wanted to skip, but it is important for the review. The PW story is well...lame and boring. I don't know what happened to our Jap buddy but he has lost his touch. Maybe I'm one of the folks who preferred MGS1 and MGS2. But nanomachines and robots? Surely there is more in his mind than this...
That's all I'm saying story-wise as I don't want to ruin it for you.
Time Spent
Anyone who attempts to play the game in single player may have problems with some boss battles, and it might take awhile to beat them. But in general, I played the game for around 15 hours. Which is quite long for a PSP game, and average for a MGS game. I haven't been able to play many extra ops or chapter 5, so you should add a few more hours to it. Giving the game's replay value, you could easily pull 50 hours on the incredibly fun co op mode.
