damn :-P was worth a try!
and $600 for a new one - amazon are/were selling the 80gb for $400 new. I'm thinking of importing one - with the exchange rates being so great in the UK's favour, thats loads cheaper than getting one here.

You will have to get all of your DVD's, Blue-Ray's etc from North America, as they ARE region locked.
The games aren't yet, but its very possible for them to region lock them.

I'm only interested in the games to be honest.
And if Sony turned around and region locked the new firmwares, there would be hell to pay for them. People who imported them would challenge Sony in the courts, and they'd have a good case too.

No it's really not. If its a good case, then how are the PS2 games region locked?
Sony wants you to support the branch in your country, not just "buy there product".
If everyone bought from the US; JAP. and EUR. Sony branches would go bankrupt.

Because PS2 were always region locked.
So if anyone ever bought a game from a different region, it was their own fault.
Whereas now, you could buy a game from Europe perfectly fine.
Then how would feel if Sony decided to lock the consoles the day after?
